Look at that: another year gone by... From National Geographic, an otherworldly photo of camel thorn trees in the Namib-Naukluft National Park in Namibia: Difficult, as Jason Kottke points out, to believe that this is a photograph rather than a Dr. Seuss illustration. Thanks for the link, Matthew!
Update: Andrew Howley interviews photographer Frans Lanting about this image and about the Deadvlei salt pan. Click the photo for more images of Deadvlei and other Namibian wilderness areas.

Eddie Fitzgerald has a funny site. I'm never quite sure what to make of Uncle Eddie's Theory Corner, beyond that Eddie has a wonderful eye for faces, for photos and drawings of faces. Today's post is no exception to the rule -- a bunch of great images tied together with a thread that I don't quite get.

Yeah, so, just two pictures that I thought go nicely together. One is the work of Scott Beseler from the streets of Covington, Kentucky; the other is one of Stanley's C-ville finds.

In 2004 the Cassini spacecraft entered orbit around Saturn; ever since it has been sending back majestic images of the planet and her moons and her rings. Now the Cassini Imaging Team has digitized thousand of those images and compiled them into a movie of Cassini's flight -- click the image above to watch. Thanks for the link, Gary.

Mientras pensaba en un viaje inminente a San Pedro de Atacama, Jorge López puso unas fotos encantadoras de Viña del Mar: y otras. ¡Buen provecho!
At South Orange Patch, Marcia Worth reports that Mario Sepulveda will be speaking at Seton Hall next week. Sepulveda is one of the copper miners who were trapped underground at Copiapó last year.

When I got to Hoboken this evening, the sun was low in the sky, and when my train pulled out of the station it was just touching the horizon. By the time I got off the train in South Orange a half an hour later, it was nearly dark. In between I was treated to one of the loveliest sunsets I can remember seeing around here.

Natsumi Hayahi's photography blog よã‚よã‚カメラウーマン日記 is full of pictures of her floating! (via everywhere on the Internet. Thanks for hipping me to this, Martha!) (Post title is my non-Japanese-speaking attempt to render "Pictures of the floating girl" -- a pun which I am shocked to find has not yet been made elsewhere, in English anyways, if Google can be trusted.)
