So, what do you make of this translation? As the book isn't cheap, I wonder if it is worth the investment.

Insofar as I can judge, it seems to me (a quarter of the way through the book) like a good translation by and large. The phrasing sounds natural to my ear; it does not feel particularly like I'm reading a work translated from another language. The translations of verse are particularly noteworthy (and they sound at times a *lot* like Nabokov). There are infrequent but glaring (I've noticed two or three over the course of the first 150 pages) copy-editing failures.
As to whether it's worth it, I would say I think it is. Note however that OneWorld publications has recently bought rights to publish the book in English translation, so it may soon be available for less money.
