Pilar del Río scatters his ashes
at the foot of an olive tree in Lisbon.
(The tree was transplanted from Saramago's birthplace, Azinhaga.)

How very Portuguese, that in the background of this scene of an olive tree, all the treetops one sees should be palms. (One could find views like this in Liguria too.)
