🦋 Redneck

The Apostropher's recent Holler mix tape includes Ray Wylie Hubbard's cover of "Choctaw Bingo" -- this is maybe the most affecting song on the tape, the strongest; it is a violent song, feels like getting punched in the gut.

Another of his tapes below the fold.

Something else from Hubbard, here he is talking about "Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother":

As you probably know, I only recently heard, "Up Against The Wall Redneck Mother" and that story does help me understand why the song doesn't exactly make sense.

That Jerry Jeff Walker performance is phenomenal.

Funny thing about these two songs, "Choctaw Bingo" makes me listen obsessively to the lyrics, unravelling the stories of the different people coming to the reunion; "Up Against the Wall Redneck Mother" I'm listening to the music and the singing and the mood, not paying any attention to the lyrics beyond perceiving that they don't make any sense...
