🦋 Beautiful Giant

The squid Magnapinna has been photographed and filmed by a team from working from a Shell offshore oil rig. See the video and read more at National Geographic.

A friend of mine who used to work offshore for the oil industry as an electrical engineer passed me video fo this awhile back, asking what it was. I swore it was a squid of some kind, but the weird jellyfish characteristics had me scratching my head. I stuck with it as a cephalopod of some kind.

Yeah you expect a squid's tentacles to be fleshier in relation to the size of its head, right? This squid looks like something tiny that you would look at with a magnifying glass, inflated with reckless disregard for the natural order of things.
