Sigh...Rosh Hashanah is a solemn day, which inaugurates the "Days of Awe"--a period of prayer, reflection, and charity ending a the Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. It's not like the customary new year, which started as Jesus's name day. BTW, I have looked at the review. Haven't forgotten. Will get back to you.

Huh -- I'm not really observant enough to know one way or t'other -- but when we go over to my in-laws' for Rosh Hashanah dinner it always seems pretty festive.

I think it depends on how observant one is, but in any event, the real serious solemn repenting and so on builds up through the eight days.
