🦋 Saturday Groovers

Let's listen to Robyn Hitchcock, singing last year in Majorca.

I find the change of lighting when he sings "I might as well be you" very effective.

🦋 QE Roughs

Andy Metcalfe has, in his Soundcloud role as flatpicker, been posting some rough mixes from the Queen Elvis sessions -- that is one of the Hitchcock records that I'm least familiar with and it is great listening to these versions.

Dig it!

🦋 She was sinister but she was happy.

Am Am(sus)
Finding aptly chilling epitaphs in Robyn Hitchcock lyrics,
Am Em
All I want to do is fall in love while there's still time
Am Am(sus)
Sitting crosswise on the centerpiece and shining off the mantlepiece
Am Am(sus) Am
A skull, a suitcase and a long red bottle of wine.

I was playing in a pubful, of afternoon drinkers
And I asked them as I strummed my guitar, who's got all the chunes
And he crawled along a centipede and rode on his velocipede
Cutting paper napkins into little crescent moons

Tom and Kevin citing happily the sages of their destiny
His living words were dying words he smiled and he said "Yeah"
Searching sadly for that bluegum you can take my eyes I've used 'em
Searching sadly for a quaint old fashioned way to say goodbye

🦋 Happy Birthday, Robyn!

He celebrated 60 years in style at the Village Underground last night.

Here he is singing about seafood with Morris and Kimberley and other heavy friends; and about new formations.

Got my tix for The Venus 3's April show at Webster Hall!

🦋 Kingdom of Love

The visuals in this cartoon are at moments strikingly reminiscent of the Codex Seraphinianus. Let's listen to the Soft Boys.

(I'm a bit blown away also by the quality of the mashup, which is Unavión Ounpájaro' s editing of "Fantastic Planet" by Deloux.)

🦋 Birds in Perspex

Lots of fun at the Mountain Station practice session today! Our practice set list:

  1. Bethlehem Half-step
  2. Lonesome Nickel
  3. Talking Heads weirdness
  4. Meet Me in the Morning
  5. Birds in Perspex
  6. Been all around this world
  7. Cole Durhew
  8. I Can See Clearly Now/ Here Comes the Sun medley
  9. Why Don't We Do It in the Road jam
Let's listen to "Birds in Perspex"! It is my favorite Robyn Hitchcock song; this is the first time we've ever played it and I think we did a pretty good job.

🦋 A full weekend of Robyn Hitchcock shows

We're on our way south -- tonight in Freehold, tomorrow in Bordentown (and snow permitting, Monday in Sellersville). Excited! Will post gig notes.
